Who is Owen Watters, Commercial Director at CasinoSource?

There are many responsibilities as a Commercial Director but one of the most important duties I have is to ensure we only work with the most trusted casinos in the game. I have seen a lot of online casinos come and go over the years and that experience helps me identify the sites that are most likely to give our users the value and great gaming experience they are looking for. Not every casino we review will meet all tastes but I can guarantee each of them are fully regulated, so our visitors can rest assured they are playing in a safe environment.
Having worked for gambling companies for a number of years, the only aspect of the industry I had no direct experience with was within the affiliate space so I decided to apply for a role at CasinoSource. Being an established and highly-regarded casino comparison site for a number of years meant I was very aware of the team. It was an easy decision and, luckily for me, I got the position.
I started out in this industry back in 2001. I had always enjoyed visiting casinos and had a weakness for roulette, I was also a very enthusiastic (yet rather unsuccessful) sports bettor. After I graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in Economics, I took a year off and travelled the world. When I returned to Ireland, I spent that summer working in an online casino, fell in love with the industry and from there, there was no going back. I really enjoyed the fast-paced yet relaxed working environment that i-gaming offered and set out to gain as much experience as I could. Working for a multi-product operator meant I needed to know every product inside out: live casino, slots, betting, poker and even bingo! Poker won me over in the end and my next position was working for a poker network where I helped to integrate clients and manage business relationships with the many established international casino websites who used our software.
Working within the Commercial team means I get to spend some time traveling around the world to various industry conferences. By far the largest conference of the year is the London IGB Affiliate Conference. Attending these conferences not only allows us to personally connect with the people behind the casinos we review on CasinoSource, but it also gives the team the opportunity to meet newly licensed operators and stay informed on the latest developments across the industry so that we can bring our users the most relevant and up to date content.

FAQ’s (Ask me anything!)

I like any table games but if I had to pick one, it is probably roulette. There is just something exhilarating about the sound of a roulette wheel in full spin, and hoping it hits the two or zero split which is my favourite bet.
Read our reviews! Take your time and read the small print. Not every online casino has the same offering, so try a few of them. A lot will offer some demo games so spend some time there to try and get an understanding of the game itself before playing for real money. It’s also important to set some limits when starting out. Gaming is all about entertainment but it’s only fun if you play within your means.
It probably has to be the Cheltenham Festival. Four days of high-class horseracing... what’s not to like? I have only ever been to the festival once but returning is high up on my list.
